Yoshitomo Shima.
Yoshitomo Shima first ventured to Australia to join a riding school in the Gold Coast. Doing this well and truly gave him the racing bug.
He took up a job working for Steve Richards a position he worked at learning his craft under the astute Flemington horsemen. He showed his passion and loyalty here as he worked in this position for a decade. This was rewarded when Yoshi took out the Victorian Thoroughbred employee of the year award in 2009.
Before taking out his own license he moved to Sydney to work under the tutelage of Chris Waller to get a different outlook. Spending time with champions like Winx, Adelade, Brazen Beau became his life asset. After a stint here Yoshi settled on Ballarat as a place to take out his license, with the state of the art facilities it was not a difficult choice.
Yoshi's next move was to go buying stock, with the help of his team including budding agent Kenji Konishi between them he collected three yearlings. Fast forward 24 months after a nice trial at Burrumbeat, Yoshi backed his judgement and sent his Dream Ahead filly (Beyond The Dream) to Flemington for a listed race on debut. Unfaniced by the bookies the 200/1 was the story of the day, as Japanese jockey Yusuke Ichikawa pulled her to the outside and she flew home to run a massive second.Since that Yoshi has built his client base and horse numbers. An astute horsemen and an alround nice guy. Shima Racing's doors are always open.
